Important Shark Fishing Info

Last July, the Department of Environmental Conservation released a bulletin in their Wildlife, Fish and Marine Life Newsletter outlining some important information and restrictions on shark fishing in New York waters. Aside from making sure you have the required permits to fish for sharks, fishermen should also be aware that they prohibited from targeting and possessing all “ridgeback” sharks (sharks with an interdorsal ridge which is a visible line of raised skin between the two dorsal fins). The exceptions to this are the tiger, oceanic whitetip, and smooth-hound sharks.
